The story on Kaden

kadenI just got an e-mail from Sue Mendenhall, the heart of Children’s Miracle Network, with a little more information about Kaden Hopkins — our Bikers Have Heart kid for 2007.

Kaden was born Dec. 3, 2001 with some severe health problems. I’ll list them here, with links, in case you want to know about them: Hydrocephalus, omphalocele and tracheomalacia. On top of all this, he was diagnosed with ALL — a form of leukemia — earlier this year. The chemo treatments have left his body very weak and very prone to infections.

Kaden has a “trach” to help his breathing most of his life, and he has to have daily treatments, which his mom gives him at home. But she still works — in the food industry, like Kaden’s dad — trying to keep the family afloat. They also have a younger child, who is healthy.

If you’d like to see photos of Kaden and his family and read updates about his condition, please go to the following website: http://groups.msn.com/kadenhopkinsfoundation

The money we raise will go toward helping Kaden’s family meet their huge medical bills, as well as giving them some help with their daily expenses.

Just a little something to think about as we ride that Saturday…

We got a nice note today from kaden’s grandmother Jackie (a.k.a. Nana), who lives in Boston. She writes: “I just wanted to say thank you… from the bottom of my heart… thank you. Be safe.” — terrie*
