Tea House Run -2006
by Nanci Rogers
6.19.06
On June 11th, the Siskiyou Lady Riders and Ms. Lynn's Tea in
Montague
,
Calif.
, hosted its second "Tea House Run." The run, open to experienced women riders and any ladies wanting to become involved in the sport, attracted women from as far south as Corning, Calif., and as far North as Merlin, Oregon. A total of 14 bikes, 15 riders and 2 "I want to ride" gals, enjoyed the savory tea time experience at Ms Lynn's Tea. Afterwards the group toured through the
Shasta
Valley
and the cities of Weed and
Mt.
Shasta
. Stops along the way offered door prizes and a "Tootsie Pop Stop" at
McCloud
Falls
. The ride ended in
Yreka
,
Calif.
,
for a late afternoon dinner stop before the riders headed home.
A portion of the luncheon plate proceeds from Ms Lynn's Tea went towards the purchase of a much needed Breast Cancer Awareness Banner for Yreka. Inspiration for the run came from the Corset Cruise sponsored by D&S Harley and the Wild Rogue chapter of Women in the Wind. Additional donations came from Barn Builders Plus, Ace High Leathers and Siskiyou Well and Pump, which brought the total banner proceeds to $350. Proceeds from the run for the banner will be presented to breast cancer survivor and volunteer Georgeanne DeMarco who worked closely with the Siskiyou Lady Riders in order to bring about the success of this event.
Solidarity Ride

We had an awesome ride to
Coos
Bay
on Sunday June 11th! There were 18 bikes and 21 eager riders from our HOG chapter, Southern Oregon No. 1. We were on the early side getting to Winston, but hey, we didn't break any speed limits. The other two chapters -- from
Eugene
and
Roseburg
-- were running late, but we forgave them.
All together, my guess is that around 70 bikes participated in the 1st Annual Solidarity Ride. We broke up into four groups and headed towards the coast. We had lunch at the Mill Creek Casino in
Coos
Bay
and got to meet some new HOG friends.
When we left here Sunday morning the clouds were spitting on us. By the time we hit Winston, the clouds parted and the sun came out and stayed for the whole ride. What a great ride! We put on a helluva bike show at the casino. After lunch, we headed towards home. It seemed the closer to
Medford
we came, the grayer the sky was. Those of us from Eagle Point headed across highway 234, only to find that we had just missed out on a rain storm (I hate it when that happens!).
I noticed that, after about an hour of being at home, the sky grew angry and gray and thunder boomed and it poured!!! It appeared to me that someone higher than all of us was looking out for us thw whole day. Thanks to everyone who came along. Stay tuned for another "2nd Annual Solidarity Ride" next year!
Thank you Harley-Davidson!

My wife decided a few years ago to start riding her own motorcycle -- mostly because I had MY own motorcycle and she was NOT a back seater! So, she took the Team Oregon Course and though she passed, she was on "probation." I should interject an admission here. She had bought her bike already and I, in a fit of stupidity got her on it (it's like riding a bicycle ... right?) just long enough for her to dump it twice (less than 5 mph both times).
Anyway, she was "respectful" while taking the class but never confident in herself. After the class, we rode a few times -- a very few before she decided it just wasn't for her. So her new bike (now 6 years old with 150 miles) sits in the garage. But one day, she decided (after alot of pestering) to go for a ride with me on my bike, but where were her gloves? We went to D&S to buy a new pair and sitting there in the showroom was "her" shade of green Ultra Classic® (dragonfly green pearl).
Need I say more?
After a few hours and a test ride we drove our new beauty home. She is now most comfortable two-up and feels secure being so. So thank you HD and everyone at D&S! I now have my cake (the bike) and get to eat it too (she rides everywhere with me)!!!
