Was in Japan with no wheels - found a bike at 4:00 pm - price was right but did not want to pay retail. offered him 1/2 price after my wife almost kicked me for not buying it - she was tired of walking.

3:30 am knock on the door - dude with the bike wrote him a check - found out he was leaving for the states at 4:00 am

MY MOTTO: ALWAYS LEAVE AN OFFER ESPECIALLY IF THE WIFE LIKES IT -- KEPT THE BIKE FOR THE 5 YEARS I WAS THERE

Lokken's RoadKing Legacy
by Dennis McCartney

A note from terrie* at D&S:

We lost a good friend Dec. 30, when Marilyn Lokken died after a battle with brain cancer. I had promised her I would make sure the person who bought her beautiful, red RoadKing had a good heart. I received this e-mail last week...

Dear Terrie:

I just wanted to thank all the staff at D&S and especially Michelle for making my purchase of Marilyn Lokken's RoadKing a very pleasant and comfortable experience.

This is my first Harley, and I am very proud to carry on the legacy of this bike and honor of remembering Marilyn Lokken. She definitely put a lot of pride into this bike and it really shows. I just wanted to assure everyone that knew her I will continue to maintain and keep the bike as bright and shiny as Marilyn did. I've already met a lot of new people who knew Marilyn and this bike. The day I took delivery of the bike and shook your hand was very special to me. I was also blessed to meet Hal Lokken and receive a little more background about this bike. Hal was very helpful in letting me know about all the upgrades.

Again thank you all so much for delivering me from a Honda to my first Harley!

I love it and always will!!

Sincerely,
Dennis McCartney

Doesn't Get Any Better

There is no better Harley-Davidson store than D&S!  It is always a pleasure to walk into the store and be greeted by the friendliest, most courteous, and professional staff.

Everytime I walk into D&S I am greeted, welcomed, and treated with respect.  Last week, I drove the 40 miles to D&S and was quickly greeted  before my 3rd step inside the building!  Next, a towering salesman walked passed me with a grin on his face and said, "Hi.  Is there anything I can help you with?"  Before I could answer, Geoff Sterling, intercepted me and said my ordered parts were ready for pick up and escorted me to the Parts Department.  More employees looked straight at me, smiled, and said, "Hi, need any help?" Then,  two mechanics stepped out of their work area, noticed me, and said, "How's it going?"  After I paid for the sissy bar parts, I carried them through the storefront and admired the new motorcycles. Another incredible employee, Michelle,  asked (from across the store),  "Got chrome?"   She gave me a big smile and a thumbs up. As I backed my car out of the parking lot, I saw an arm waving goodbye to me from behind the shelves of helmets.

Does it get any better than this?

With Love, from Spain
by Mike (and Lisa) Barnett

This summer, Lisa and I were able to represent our Chapter at the Spanish National HOG Rally in Benicassium , Spain . My God, can those folks throw a party! Four days and nights of (American) bikes, (American) Rock and Roll, and perfect, down home hospitality. (Funny how we are the "Bad Guys" in so many countries, yet all they want to do is be like us huh?) Well, it was "almost" perfect hospitality....   I'll attach some pics of our trip. Some of which show, much to our pride, our Chapter banner (or flag), that we asked to borrow to represent our part of the world with. We told the folks there we had the banner upon our arrival. They told us to hand it over and they would mount it in the proper place with any other chapter flags. We gave it up on Day One, Hour One.

On Day Three, zero-hour before the big parade on Saturday, we find out the banner has been stolen. Not having any proof, nor wanting to point any fingers, I do need to say that the ONLY banner left "zip-tied" to the framework of the lounge area was that of the visiting "French" contingent of HOG. Funny how you notice these little things.... The Italians lost a flag as well.

The Host Chapter fell all over themselves trying to appologize for the incident. They have offered to pay for the replacement...

OK. For some good news. I got a little pay-back for us. I hope you can find the humor in this that Lisa and I did as we pulled it off and as we still do when we look back on the whole shebang.

We wanted to rent a bike to ride in Spain . The problem was the closest rental was 7 or 8 hours south, AND did not offer one-way rentals. We had obligations in Northern-Central Spain right after the HOG rally so returning the bike was not an option.

So, we were bike-less in Spain . Bummer. We WERE the only Americans that attended from the States, which was cool. But we were sans-Harley doing it.

One Yank was there from his post with the Army in Germany . Another was a Teacher in Italy for the Military Dependent School System. That was the extent of US participation.

These folks put on quite the bash as I said earlier. I mean, what do we pay for a run or rally of any size here in the States? Thirty? Fourty bucks right? We get admission, a T-Shirt, a poker run and a pin. Maybe.

Well, get this, for about Sixty bucks US (45 Euro) we got admission for four days, A T-Shirt, A Pin, A cool bag to carry junk in, plus, Dinner for four nights, Lunch for four days for the riders on the daily tours, nightly live music AND all the beer and sangria you could drink for four days! Holy Guacamoly what a bash!

OK, where was I. Oh yeah, "pay-back" & "bike-less"....So, when we finally force ourselves to get back over to the festivities, (after a Madcap and Zany Friday Night of trying to keep up with the Spainerds), we get to the rally on Saturday and start thinking we have to at least ride alittle in Spain, if for no other reason than to say we had. I mean it was depressing! LOL

So I come up with the idea of doing a Demo ride. They were offering them like any Harley Rally does. We walked over and spoke with a great English Chap who ran the show. At this point the only time slot availible was 6pm . We accept, sign up and listen to his list of rules.

Mind you, it's July on the Southern Coast of Spain. It's hot. We're in shorts and D&S T-shirts. He says we need long pants and a helmet apiece. Oh yeah, it seems the big parade of bikes is scheduled at 6pm. Hmm, go figure, the only demo slot left was at 6pm .....

We trot off to borrow helmets from some of the folks we met. We find only one. RATS!

Did I mention the pay-back? Ok. I got a little something cooking in my over-heated, over-partied, under-rested brain.

We get our jeans on. Yucko, HOT! We get our one borrowed helmet. We walk over to the opening of the Demo rides. I go in and listen to the very orderly and detailed speel from the English Chap about the demo route (Go out here, make a right, yada, yada, yada), how long it would take (25 minutes), etc., etc. I pretend to be attentive and nod accordingly. He gives me a really cool new springer to ride. I hop on, proceed out and make a left instead of a right. Pick up Lisa. Give her the helmet, turn my Ducks Ballcap around backwards and ride like crazy to find where the parade went!

We find the group in just a few minutes of looking and dive into the fray. It was a grand old time riding through town, honking horns and being part of a huge group of people with a common love and passion. Kids were waving, people were smiling and everyone watching or riding seemed to have a great experience! I know we did! Plus our's was sweeter by having pulled off a bit of a fast one by "borrowing" their bike for the parade. But Hey! Somebody just swiped our friggin' flag fer cry'n out loud! What self respecting Oregonian would have let that slide completely! Am I wrong? Is that so wrong??

So, I return the bike. No problems. Yeah, it was a hour longer test ride than it should have been. But I'm just THAT much more sold on staying with products from the "Company." Except not that one....the bars were wrong, It needed chrome this and that, a different seat....well, you know what I'm talking about!

As it turns out no harm was done as it was the last of the demos for the rally. They were packing up and never even looked up when I dropped it off. No harm no foul right? Or is it no cop, no stop? I can't remember.

So, if you are so inclined, you could go to the web site for the Castelleon Chapter of HOG in Spain . Go find the pics they have of the '05 National Rally. On page five, it seems Lisa and I made the cut for one of the shots. Me with my Ducks hat on backwards, Lisa snapping some of the shots I'll post, on our "borrowed" springer (look for the yellow sticker on the front fender, Heh Heh. I think it was #5 or something) and my little grin for getting some pay-back for So.Or. #1 HOG! Yeah Buddy!

If anyone finds out what those banners cost let me know and I'll cut a check. I'll bird-dog the Spainish Chapter for a refund. Or not. Did I mention they throw a heck of a party for cheap?
